ORLANDO – The Houston Cougar Women’s Tennis team fell 4-0 to UCF in the First Round of the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston was forced to open play with a forfeit at the No. 3 doubles position due to injuries to freshmen Tsveta Dimitrova and Cristina Rovira. UCF clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory for Cortney Cesarini and Monica Matias over junior Sveva Mazzari and freshman Lauren Alter at the No. 1 doubles position.
Singles play also began with the Cougars forfeiting at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions due to Dimitrova’s and Rovira’s injuries. The Knights wrapped the overall match with a victory from Cesarini over Nicolaou at the No. 4 singles position. Cesarini won in straight-sets 6-2, 6-1.
When play was halted, Alter and Serrano were set to begin the third set at the No. 2 singles position in a match where Alter took the first set 6-1, before Serrano answered with a 6-3 win in set two. At the No. 3 singles position, Glumac and Granstrom were even at 6-6 in the first set, while Mazzari trailed Matias at the No. 1 position 6-0, 5-5.

Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the head coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.
LEVELS OF GIVING
For a minimum gift of $100, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball.
For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
