Tuscaloosa, Alabama -- The University of Houston women's tennis team opened singles play today at the University of Alabama's Fall Invitational in Tuscaloosa. Since doubles were finished on Friday, the Cougars played the first two rounds of singles today. Ani Longoni and Miranda Foley will each play for 3rd place, Karine Urbine and Christina Flores will each play for 7th place and Sandra Blajer will play for 5th place on Sunday. Competition will wrap up Sunday afternoon.

Flight "B" Result Ani Longoni (UH) def. Natascha Immele (UAB) 7-6, 6-4 Ani Longoni (UH) lost Sophie Cremers (Alabama) 6-4, 7-6

Flight "C" Karine Urbin (UH) lost Sarah Suitor (Auburn) 6-0, 6-2 Karine Urbin (UH) lost Matilde Taborda (Louisiana-Monroe) 6-1, 6-0

Flight "D" Miranda Foley (UH) def. Megan McCoy (Arkansas State) 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 Miranda Foley (UH) lost Natalie Koppelle (Auburn) 6-4, 2-6, 6-3

Flight "E" Christina Flores (UH) lost Electra Henry (Auburn-Montgomery) 6-0, 6-0 Christina Flores (UH) lost Justyna Switala (Mississippi State) 6-1, 6-1

Flight "F" Sandra Blajer (UH) lost Elaine Fagan (Mississippi State) 7-5, 6-2 Sandra Blajer (UH) def. Marusa Pogacnik (Arkansas State) 2-6,7-6,default

The Cougars will return to Houston October 11-13 as they host nine teams in the 2002 Cougar Fall Classic at John E.Hoff/Varsity Tennis Courts on UH's campus.
