Day 2 Results From The San Diego Tournament
Oct. 2, 2004
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In the second day of competition at the San Diego Tournament, the Cougars made some noise today, claiming victory in the double consolation bracket and reaching the finals in on of the singles brackets. After falling in their first doubles match as a pair, Houston senior Biljana Dimovska and freshman Sacha Gumbs came back to win the consolation bracket as they downed teams from the University of San Diego and Alabama. Reaching the semifinals of the doubles bracket was senior Diana Martin and junior Kami Miller who were knocked out by San Diego State's Dita Hauerlandova and Indra Erichsen. In the singles pairings, Miller has yet to drop a match, beginning the season with a 3-0 record after today's win over Elisak Drausova of SDSU in the semi-final round that set her up to face USD's Emma Murphy in the championship match of the singles b-flight on Sunday. After winning her first two matches in the singles a-flight, Dimovska dropped her semi-final match to Emma Murphy of USD, while freshman Tiffany McLaughlin and senior Diana Martin won their singles matches and Gumbs fell in her final singles event of the tournament. The San Diego Tournament concludes on Sunday with the championship rounds.
