Dimitrova’s Impressive Regional Ends in Quarterfinals

HOUSTON – Sophomore Tsveta Dimitrova wrapped up an impressive ITA Texas Regional Championship by reaching the Quarterfinals on Sunday, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Playing as the No. 5 seed in the tournament, Dimitrova opened the day against the No. 16 seed, Sarah Dvorak (Texas Tech) in the Round of 16. Dimitrova claimed the first set 6-4, but was in for a battle in the second set. With the score tied at 6 apiece, the match went to a tiebreaker, however Dimitrova gained the momentum and outlasted Dvorak 6-4, 7-6(5).

With the victory, Dimitrova booked a berth in the tournament quarterfinals, where she drew the No. 4 seed Petra Granic (Texas). Granic claimed the first set 6-2, before returning to win the match with a 6-1 mark in the second set.

Dimitrova posted a 3-1 singles record on the weekend and now has a team-high 10 wins throughout fall play.

A pair of Houston teams were in action in the consolation rounds of doubles play on Sunday, including Laura Bernardos and Constandena Nicolaou who faced Sara Djurdjevic and Jelena Dordan (Incarnate Word). The duo won the match against Djurdjevic/Dordan 8-4, before falling to Julia Navajo-Melendez and Ana Perez (Texas State) 8-1.

Lauren Alter and Ana Glumac met Lana Rush and Alex Valenstein (Texas Tech) in doubles play, where they fell 8-4 in the consolation round.

UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars return to Houston to wrap fall play with the River Oaks Hidden Dual across Nov. 3-5. The event will be hosted by the River Oaks Country Club.

Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the head coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $100, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball.
ACE
For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
US OPEN
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
