Singles Draw | Doubles Draw

HOUSTON - Four University of Houston Women's Tennis student-athletes advanced in singles play on the opening day of the Tennis Express Houston Open at John E. Hoff Courts.

Sophomore transfer Elena Kordolaimi opening singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Iowa State's Simona Cacciuttolo to improve to 6-2 this fall and advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Junior Celia Fraser followed with a 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 defeat of Oregon's Lana Buttner, while senior Maja Kazimieruk cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Megan Ziots of TCU.

Junior Jo Garvey rounded out the singles wins on Friday by defeating Liberty's Rebekah Jenkins by a score of 6-0, 7-5.

In doubles play, the Houston duo of Kazimieruk and Fraser triumphed over Liberty's Domenech and Wellman by a score of 8-1 to advance to Saturday's finals where they will meet Oregon's Macomson and Buttner.

The Cougar pair of Kordolaimi and Sanders erased a 7-4 deficit against Lamar's Salas and Czudak, tying the match at seven games apiece before eventually falling 9-7.

The main parking lot for the tournament is lot 15H, located between the tennis courts and softball stadium, with overflow parking in lot 16D, located on the corner of Elgin and Cullen at the end of the intramural fields.
