HOUSTON - The Cougar Fall Classic turned out to be a wildly successful tournament for the Houston tennis team where the Cougars captured four of the five main draw championships.

All six Cougars participating in the Classic advanced to at least the quarterfinals in their respective flights, and all three doubles teams played for the championship of their flight as well.

The host team Cougars began the Cougar Fall Classic with a 14-1 combined record on Friday, the opening day of competition. That was followed up with a 12-4 combined performance to finish out the tournament with a 26-5 team record.

Senior Diana Martin took home the Blue Singles Flight championship for Houston, while teammate junior Kami Miller breezed through the White Flight to claim the championship where her closest set was a 6-3 win in the quarterfinals.

Senior Bilijana Dimovska advanced to the championship match in the Red Flight, the toughest flight at the tournament, but fell to UTA's Mesterova in a 7-6, 6-1 match.

In the doubles draw, the Cougars continued their domination on the court as they extended their winning from Day 1 throughout the weekend.

The Red Flight came down to a battle of the Cougars with both Houston team's squaring off against each other for the championship. In the end it was the team of Miller and Martin, ousting the duo of Dimovska and junior Yolandi Terblanche in a close 8-6 final.

Houston's two freshman, McLoughlin and Gumbs, teamed up in the White Flight to go the distance, as they knocked off Shelly and Vacenov from Lee College in a tight 8-6 come-from-behind victory to claim the championship.
