HOUSTON - Senior Neila Starratt continued her impressive play at the 2009 Alonti Cougar Fall Draw Saturday, winning her semifinal match of the Flight D bracket to advance to Sunday's final round.

After winning a pair of matches during the tournament's opening round Friday, Starratt defeated Anna Marie Herbold of Tennessee-Martin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. The Bedford, Nova Scotia, native will face Southeastern Louisianan's Annika Hanke in the final of Flight D at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

The only other two Cougars with singles matches remaining at the event are junior Joanna Kacprzyk and freshman Alexandra Pickerill. Kacprzyk will take the court as part of the Flight B consolation round Sunday where she will face SELU's Morgane Dadot at 8 a.m., while Pickerill plays at 9:30 a.m. in the consolation round of Flight E.

Starratt, along with partner Elena Kazakova, also advanced to the finals of the Flight C doubles bracket on Saturday by winning a pair of matches, including a semifinal contest against Akron's Anya Baronayte and Jeremie Benjamin, 8-6. The UH duo faces Inga Efimenko and Tea Tvrtkovic from McNeese State on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Also in doubles action, the tandem of Maja Kazimieruk and Laura Ring earned an opening round win in the Flight B bracket, defeating the Caroline Gerber/Marcela Fonseca team from Tulane, 8-5. Kazimieruk and Ring could not continue the run, however, falling in the brackets' semifinals.

Sunday's final round of the Alonti Cougar Fall Draw will be Houston's final action of the fall. The team will kick off its spring season on Jan. 30 when it travels to McNeese State.
