HOUSTON - Senior Neila Starratt put an exclamation mark on her impressive three-day run at the 2009 Alonti Cougar Fall Draw Sunday as the University of Houston senior emerged victorious in the final round of the Flight D bracket by defeating Southeastern Louisiana's Annika Hanke 7-5, 6-0.

The Bedford, Nova Scotia, native was a perfect 3-0 in singles play at the tournament, but also combined with teammate Elena Kazakova to defeat Inga Efimenko and Tea Tvrtkovic of McNeese State, 8-2, to win the Flight C doubles bracket.

In other singles action, sophomore Joanna Kacprzyk fell in her Flight B consolation match to Morgane Dadot of Southeastern Louisiana, 6-4, 6-2, while Kazakova rebounded to win after dropping the first set of her consolation match in Flight D. The Moscow, Russia, native defeated Francesca Bassoo of Lee College, 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Freshman Alexandra Pickerill fell in her attempt to notch a consolation win in the Flight E bracket.

Houston tennis concludes its fall season and now begins preparations for this spring, when it will return to the courts on Jan. 30 with a road trip to McNeese State.
