HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women’s Tennis team travels to take on Nevada and Arizona in a pair of matches in Tucson, Ariz. First serve against Nevada begins at 1 p.m. (CST) on Saturday, and the Arizona match starts at noon (CST) on Sunday.
Houston completed its first sweep of the spring season against Southern last Friday at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. The Cougars only dropped one set and dominated in doubles, taking both matches by the score of 6-1. Ana Glumac and Constandena Nicolaou’s match was unfinished due to the Cougars taking the doubles point.
Alison Mills kicked off the singles portion of the match by cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over D’Jeri Raymond. Tsveta Dimitrova finished quickly after only dropping one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win that was controlled by Dimitrova’s excellent serving. The next two matches were won by the Cougars, which captured the overall victory. To finish singles, Laura Bernardos put up an impressive 4-6, 6-1, 10-2 win which proved to be the closest match of the day.
ABOUT THE WOLF PACK
Nevada took down Sacramento State on Saturday in a close 4-3 win. The Wolf Pack are 1-1 on the season with their loss coming from Cal Poly on Feb. 2 by a score of 4-3.
The Wolf Pack secured the doubles point against Sacramento State by winning 6-3 and 6-4 in the two matches. Freshman Melissa Huchet started their singles off with a 6-3, 6-2 win which provided Nevada with momentum to secure the match 4-1. Sacramento State won the last two singles matches but had already fallen short of the victory. Senior Claudia Herrero is 2-0 on the season in singles and hopes to keep her momentum going when the Wolf Pack face Arizona on Friday.
