HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women’s Tennis team is set to play back-to-back matches on the weekend against New Mexico State and Rice. Starting on Friday, Houston plays New Mexico State at 2 p.m. at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. In case of inclement weather, the match will be played at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center at 2pm. Please check twitter for updates. Following that match, the Cougars take on Rice on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Houston defeated both Nevada and Arizona last weekend in Tucson. The Cougars opened the weekend with a win in a close match against Nevada 4-3. Sophomore Constandena Nicolaou clinched the overall match with her win in what was the deciding match with the score tied at three.
The Cougars kept the momentum going with a 6-1 win against Arizona the following day. Senior Sveva Mazzari headlined the match by picking up her seventh singles win, and she hasn’t lost in singles all season. Sveva, Lauren and Constandena are all 7-0 at their respective spot for the year. Houston is undefeated on the season and looks to stay perfect against New Mexico State and Rice.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
New Mexico State is 2-3 on the spring season after a 7-0 win against UT Permian Basin, on Feb. 11. The win was the Aggies’ first sweep on the season, and they didn’t lose a set in the match. New Mexico State is led by junior Lindsay Harlas who is 3-1 this spring season in singles.
ABOUT THE OWLS
Rice has a 5-2 record this spring season and is coming off an impressive, 4-3, win against Texas A&M. Senior Savannah Durkin is 5-1 in singles this spring season and won her most recent match against Texas A&M on Wednesday. The Cougars hope to stay undefeated when they face the Owls on Saturday.

The Cougars welcome American Conference rival UConn on Friday, Feb. 23 to the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. First serve is set for 1 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 25, Houston plays host to Northwestern State, and the match time is slated for 11 a.m.
