PROVIDENCE, R.I.--- Freshman Despoina Vogasari earned her second consecutive conference weekly honor, after being named American Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The Cougars continue to make history so far in 2014, as Vogasari becomes the first player in school history to garner conference Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.

The Athens, Greece native posted a 2-0 record in singles action last week from the No. 1 position, improving to 12-3 in singles play on the year, while bolstering her dual match mark to a perfect 8-0 on the season. Vogasari has only dropped one set thus far in spring singles action.

On Friday, she rallied to defeat Washington State's Elizaveta Luzina, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, before posting an impressive straight sets victory over Washington's top player, in Elianne Douglas-Miron, 6-3, 6-4, last Sunday afternoon.

Vogasari also got it done on the doubles circuit, as she teamed up with sophomore Elena Kordolaimi to defeat Washington State's Elizaveta Luzina and Lize Leenknecht, 8-6, clinching the all-important doubles point for the Cougars last Friday.

In addition to her individual accolades, Vogasari has led the Cougars to their best eight-match start (7-1) since the 2009 season, while Houston's wins at No. 59 Washington State and at No. 40 Washington over the weekend were the two highest ranked opponents UH has defeated in consecutive matches in school history.

The win at No. 40 Washington was also the highest ranked opponent the Cougars have defeated since taking down No. 40 Louisville back on March 22, 2008.

The freshman will try and keep her strong campaign going when Houston takes on No. 18 Texas and No. 23 Tulsa this Friday and Saturday.
