HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women’s Tennis team is on the road to meet Abilene Christian and North Texas. On Friday, March 2, the Cougars play against Abilene Christian at 10 a.m., in Abilene, Texas. Following that match, the Cougars play on Saturday, March 3, against North Texas in Denton, Texas with first serve set for noon.
Houston beat UConn and Northwestern State in their most recent at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. They took down UConn in what proved to be their first American Athletic Conference victory of the season, 5-2. Sveva Mazzari remained undefeated on the season in singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Summer Walker. Ana Glumac highlighted singles play with an outstanding 6-1, 6-0 win after dropping her match the previous week.
The Cougars went on to sweep Northwestern State the following day 5-0. The Cougars clinched the doubles point with only losing five games total between the three matches. Tsveta Dimitrova won her singles match without dropping a game, moving her to 9-2 in singles play on the season. The Cougars are 10-1 on the season going into the road matches this weekend.
ABOUT THE WILDCATS
Abilene Christian is riding a three-match win streak, including a 5-2 win over Nicholls State in its last match. The Wildcats are led by senior Lucile Pothier, who boasts a 6-1 singles record this season. She also is 8-1 in doubles this season. The Wildcats are 2-0 at home and 7-3 overall this spring season.
ABOUT THE MEAN GREEN
North Texas is 4-5 this spring season but is coming off of a 4-0 sweep over Marshall on Sunday. Junior Tamuna Kutubidze highlights singles play with a 5-2 record. Kutubidze also holds the best doubles record at 2-1 when playing with sophomore Alexandra Heczey. The Mean Green are 3-1 at home this season.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars return home for a doubleheader against Louisiana-Lafayette and UT Rio Grande Valley on Monday, March 12. First serve versus Louisiana-Lafayette is set for 11 a.m., with the match against UTRGV starting at 3 p.m.
