Vogasari Obtains National Ranking
March 11, 2014
HOUSTON--- Cougar freshman Despoina Vogasari has been ranked as the 80th singles player in the nation, according to the latest ITA poll released on Tuesday.
Vogasari now becomes the highest ranked Cougar, since Biljana Dimovska was also ranked 80th back on Feb. 24, 2004. The placement is also the freshman’s second appearance in the national rankings this season, as she was placed at No. 125 back on Feb. 11
Since the last individual rankings were released on Feb. 25, Vogasari has gone 4-1 in singles play and 2-2 in doubles action during that span, including earning a victory over the nation’s 70th ranked player in Samantha Vickers, back on March 1 in Houston’s upset win over then ranked No. 17 Tulsa. Her lone singles loss in that period came to then ranked No. 16 Breaunna Addison of Texas.
The Athens, Greece native has compiled a team-best mark of 16-4 and a 12-1 record during dual play, all from the No. 1 position. She’s also gone 3-1 vs. nationally ranked individuals this season.
In addition, Vogasari has gone 9-7 in doubles action, while boasting a 7-3 doubles mark in dual play this season.
Vogasari aims to keep up her superb play, as No. 23 Houston heads to Salt Lake City to take on No. 37 Utah, Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. CT
