PROVIDENCE, R.I.--- Freshman Despoina Vogasari earned her third conference weekly honor within the last month, after being named American Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week once again, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
With the most recent nomination, Vogasari now becomes the first Cougar in program history to win conference Player of the Week honors three or more times in her career.
The Athens, Greece native went 3-0 from the No. 1 position last week, including leading Houston to back-to-back wins over American Athletic Conference foes, while representing the clinching point in the Cougars' March 8 win over UConn.
Vogasari failed to even drop a set on the week, allowing no more than two points in any game last week, while she also teamed up with junior teammate Elena Kordolaimi to post a perfect 2-0 mark during doubles action.
The freshman is also placed at No. 80 in the nation according the latest ITA individual rankings, as she's compiled a team-best 16-4 overall record and a 12-1 dual match mark so far this season, while going 3-1 vs. ranked individuals.
Vogasari aims to keep her strong play going this week, as Houston will play at No. 37 Utah, Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. CT before returning home to take on Louisiana Tech, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. out at the Houston Country Club.
