Elena Kordolaimi is 15-5 in singles action this season
April 3, 2014
In part two of UHCougars.com's "getting to know" series, we sit down with Houston Tennis junior Elena Kordolaimi.
Kordolaimi is off to a fantastic start this season, as she's gone 15-5 in overall singles play, 10-4 in dual singles action, while she's won five straight matches overall. Kordolaimi has played the majority of her matches near the top of the lineup, going an impressive 8-4 from the No. 2 spot in the order.
In addition to her superb singles play, she's teamed up with fellow freshman teammate Despoina Vogasari to post a team-best 12-7 mark in doubles action, while going 11-5 in dual play and 8-5 on court one.
The Lamia, Greece native has been recognized for her great play this season, as she hauled in American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors back on March 25, while she was also ranked as the 122nd best player in the nation at one point this season.
Without further ado, time to meet Elena Kordolaimi:
UHCougars.com: What has been your favorite moment of the season so far?
Kordolaimi: It was definitely when we defeated Tulsa. That was such a big win for us and I was glad I was able to come through for my team. (Kordolaimi represented the match clinching point back on March 1 in Houston's 4-3 win over Tulsa).
UHCougars.com: Who is the best dancer on the team?
Kordolaimi: I am for sure, but Despoina (Vogasari) is a close second. We have all the international moves.

UHCougars.com: If you could play any sport besides tennis, what would it be?
Kordolaimi: I think I would probably try and be a swimmer. I love swimming.
UHCougars.com: If you could live one day in someone else's life on the team, who would it be?
Kordolaimi: I think it would probably have to be Celia (Fraser). One of the English people for sure. I just want to be able to speak English correctly just for one day. Celia always makes fun of my English and I just want to be able to make fun of her for a change.
UHCougars.com: Who is the funniest person on the team?
Kordolaimi: It would probably be Celia (Fraser). She just says some of the most random things.
UHCougars.com: What is your most embarrassing moment on the tennis court?
Kordolaimi: Last season I was playing doubles with Jo Garvey and we both went for the ball at the same time. She wacked me in the face with her racquet and I had the biggest lump on my head. The best part about the entire thing is the fact that she didn't even realize she hit me!
UHCougars.com: What type of music do you like to listen to?
Kordolaimi: I like listening to anything that pumps me up. Then again, sometimes I just want music to calm me down. Wow this is a tough question! I pretty much like listening to anything!
UHCougars.com: What is your favorite television show?
Kordolaimi: I really like Modern Family
UHCougars.com: What are some of your favorite movies?
Kordolaimi: I really liked Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Identity Thief, and The Heat.
UHCougars.com: What is your favorite part about school?
Kordolaimi: When I go online or go to class and realize I don't have any assignments due for a couple of days. That's pretty amazing.
UHCougars.com: What is your biggest career goal?
Kordolaimi: I would like to become a professional tennis player and make a living out of it. It's been my dream since I was 12-years old.
UHCougars.com: What is your biggest goal for the remainder of this season?
Kordolaimi: It would obviously be to win the conference and make it really far in the NCAA Tournament. I think that's been everyone's goal since day one. I've been to the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round. It felt as if someone gave me a piece of chocolate but I wasn't able to eat it.
