The doubles tandem of Celia Fraser and Maja Kazimieruk has won 13-straight matches entering tournament play

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's tennis team will serve as host of the 2013 Conference USA Championship beginning at 8 a.m., on Thursday at John E. Hoff Courts. The Cougars earned a No. 10 seed for the tournament and will meet No. 7 Marshall in the first round at noon on Thursday.
Thursday's action will feature five matches, with two taking place at 8 a.m., two at noon and the final contest at 4 p.m. Top-seeded Rice and No. 2 Tulsa and No. 3 Memphis received first-round byes and will begin play on Friday in the quarterfinals.
The Cougars enter tournament play with an overall record of 13-10 after facing four nationally-ranked teams in a stretch of five matches prior to Monday's 6-1 victory over Prairie View A&M in the regular season finale.
Senior Maja Kazimieruk has highlighted play for the Cougars as the Poznan, Poland, native has put together one of the most impressive seasons in school history with a combined record of 34-7 in dual play this spring.
Kazimieruk leads the team in singles action with an 18-3 mark at positions No. 1-5 and is currently a perfect 11-0 in the city of Houston, while teaming up with junior Celia Fraser in doubles play for a 15-2 mark, as the duo has reeled off 13 consecutive victories.
Kazimieruk currently ranks 10th in school history with 89 career singles wins and also places 10th with Fraser in career winning percentage (.739) in doubles play.
All six Cougars in the singles lineup, that also includes Elena Kordolaimi, Celia Fraser, Rocio Martin Fernandez, Charlotte Phillips and Dionne Sanders, feature a winning record and at least 10 victories in dual play.
Parking for the 2013 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on the campus of the University of Houston will be available in lots 15H, 16D and the parking garage at Holman St. and Cullen Blvd.
