Houston, Texas - University of Houston head women's tennis coach John Severance announced on Thursday that his program has signed Alix Young to a National Letter of Intent. Young will be a freshman on the 2008-09 squad.

A native of East Hampton, Mass., Young graduated from the IMG Academy, where she trained under famed tennis mentor Nick Bollettieri. Young arrives at Houston as a three-star recruit according to Tennis Recruiting Network.

"We're excited about having a player of (Young's) caliber coming in as a freshman next year," said Severance. "She is a very hard hitter, and she has a terrific work ethic, which you would expect from a Bollettieri kid."

The daughter of Andrea and David Young, the 5-4 Young was ranked in the New England Top 10 USTA Rankings for Girls ages 14-16. Later, she was ranked in the New England Top 15 for 18-year-old Girls.
