HOUSTON -- The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team and Head Coach Courtney Steinbock are excited to announce the signing of Laura Bernardos to a National Letter of Intent for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
A native of Valladolid, Spain, Bernardos wrapped her final high school season as the No. 73 rated player in the Spanish open ranking according to AGM and was listed as high as No. 60 during her senior season. Bernardos ranks No. 19 among players under 18 years of age.
Bernardos enters her freshman season at Houston with five tournament wins in the last four seasons including the IBP Peugeot Senior Regional Tournament in January. In that span, Bernardos has advanced to 13 championship finals and six semifinal rounds.
Over the past four seasons, Bernardos has tallied wins against eight players ranked inside the top-100 of the open Spanish ranking including victories over Jessica de Lucas (No. 41), Rocio Sanchez Palacio (No. 67) and Andrea Arratia (No. 96).
