Tennis Team Earns ITA Academic Recognition

HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's tennis team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their academic achievements. In addition to the Cougars being named an an ITA All-Academic Team, three individual players were selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes - Lucy Forward, Neila Starratt and Lynley Wasson. Houston was one of four C-USA women's programs to garner the recognition. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program with a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above. All eligible members of the team who have competed in at least one varsity match will average into the GPA for the academic year. To qualify for the ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 and have been enrolled in the school for at least two semesters. This is the third time Houston has been selected as an ITA All-Academic Team (2003, 2004). The total of three individual award winners establishes a new best under head coach John Severance. Starratt was awarded with her third consecutive ITA Scholar-Athlete award, tying Kami Miller (2004-2006) for the all-time lead at Houston.
