WACO, Texas -- The Houston Cougar Women's Tennis team continues fall play with a trip out west to the HEB Invitational, across Oct. 6-8 at the Hurd Tennis Center, at Baylor.
Action at the HEB Invitational begins with the Round of 64 for singles play, where three Cougars will be in action at 8:30 a.m., on Friday. Freshman Laura Bernardos meets Sonia Chen (Louisiana Tech), while sophomore Lauren Alter drew Oceane Garibal (UT Tyler) and senior Ana Glumac will face Kalani Soli (UT Tyler).
The first round of doubles play will follow the morning singles session, and Houston will have two teams entered in the field. Sophomore Tsveta Dimitrova is set to team with senior Sveva Mazzari to take on Yuna Ito and Maria Shishkina (UT Tyler), while Alter and Glumac will face Magda Adaloglou and Sara Lizariturry (Mississippi State) with each match beginning at 10:30 a.m.
The singles Round of 32 will follow doubles play with action beginning at noon for student-athletes who advance from the first round. Dimitrova and Mazzari will also begin their singles runs in the Round of 32 with a pair of matches at 1:30 p.m., with Dimitrova meeting Lizariturry and Mazzari matching against Angela Lorenzo (Louisiana Tech).
THE FALL THUS FAR
Houston opened the fall slate at the Rice Invitational, where sophomore Constandena Nicolaou posted a 3-0 record en route to winning the Flight 8 finals. Freshman Laura Bernardos made her collegiate debut with a 2-1 record, while sophomore Tsveta Dimitrova advanced to the Flight 1 finals before dropping a tough match and posting a 2-1 record as well.
Dimitrova would go on to compete in the pre-qualifying round of the ITA Riviera Women's All-American Championships in Malibu, Calif. The 2017 American Athletic Conference Co-Freshman of the Year would advance to the second round of pre-qualifying after a 7-5, 6-2 win over Giulia Pairone before falling 6-3, 6-2 to Marta Gonzalez of Georgia.
Houston posted a 4-5 record in doubles play in the opening weekend and were led by sophomore Lauren Alter and senior Sveva Mazzari. The duo tallied a 2-1 record and picked up wins over Petchey/Hollebeck of SMU (6-1) and Gettwart/Wee of Sam Houston State (6-2).
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
Houston heads to Fort Worth, Texas, for the penultimate competition of the fall season. The Cougars will compete in the ITA Texas Regionals, to be held Oct. 13-17 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center & Bartzen Varsity Courts on the campus of TCU.

The Cougars are proud to introduce the Center Court Club, a restricted-giving program that directly impacts the needs of the University of Houston Tennis program. Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the head coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $100, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball.
For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
