Tennis To Finish Fall Season In ITA Regional

Oct. 18, 2007

HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team heads to Lubbock, Texas this weekend, Oct. 19-23, to round up the fall season in the ITA Regional Tournament.

The team's lone senior Leila Salek heads straight to the main draw of the singles tournament beginning competition on Saturday. The rest of the team will begin competition in the qualifying round in hopes of advancing to the main draw.

"We're excited about our first flight trip," head coach John Severance said. "This is a chance for us to not only get in good competition, but to also do a lot of team building."

Freshman Lucy Forward enters the qualifying round as the No. 7 seed and is set to take on Ximena Fuentes from UTEP. In the main draw Salek prepares for a match against Baylors Jana Bielikova.

The doubles main draw will hold all three Cougar tandems with Jordan McCombs and Vicky Simpson taking on SMU's Francis and Reid. Neila Starratt and Lynley Wasson match up against Andres and Roberts from Texas Tech while the final doubles team of Forward and Salek take on UTSA's Dedering and Scida.
