HOUSTON--- The University of Houston tennis team returns to action for the first time in three weeks, as it will host its annual Cougar Classic at the John E. Hoff Courts this Friday- Sunday, in what will be the Cougars' final event of the 2013 fall season.

Houston welcomes in 11 Division I schools from around the nation, including No. 18 Texas Tech, No. 22 Rice and No. 52 Arkansas. Texas State, Northwestern State, Iowa State, Stephen F. Austin, Maryland, Kansas, Prairie View A&M, and Lamar round out the rest of the field.

The Cougars enter the weekend boasting the sixth-best recruiting class in the nation and the No. 1 freshman class among mid-majors coming into the year, led by first-years Despoina Vogasari (Athens, Greece) and Rocio Martin Fernandez (Madrid, Spain).

Vogasari enters the weekend in a groove, after performing well at the Florence Open and the John Newcombe Women's Challenge over the last two weeks.

Sophomore Maria Andrea Cardenas also comes into the event with confidence, after competing against some of the world's best back in her home country of Venezuela in the Caracas Women's Open.

The Cougars aim to end their fall season on a high note before the squad gets its spring campaign underway in late January.
