HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team will compete in its final tournament of the fall this weekend, hosting the Persona Legal Resources Cougar Fall Draw at the John E. Hoff Courts. The three-day tournament kicks off at 8:30 a.m., Friday morning.
"I'd like to thank our sponsors Persona Legal Resources, WCA Waste Corporation, Tennis Express and Firkin and Phoenix for their continued support in making this tournament bigger and better every year," head tennis coach John Severance said. "We're excited about the competition level this year, which should make for a very competitive and highly energetic weekend."
The 12-team tournament consists of Oregon, Auburn, Rice, Texas, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana, Arkansas Little Rock, Arkansas State, Texas-Pan American, Texas State and Prairie View A&M.
The tournament begins on Friday with two rounds of singles, while two rounds of doubles and one round of singles will follow on Saturday and Sunday.
Charlotte Phillips, Giorgia Pozzan, Bryony Hunter, Jo Garvey, Liselot Koenen and Maja Kazimieruk will all compete for Houston in singles action, while Pozzan and Hunter, Kazimieruk and Garvey and Phillips and Koenen will pair up in doubles play.
Pozzan, a senior from Lacchiarella, Italy, has highlighted the fall season for the Cougars with singles flight titles at the SDSU Fall Classic and Roberta Allison Classic. Pozzan is 7-1 in singles play this season for a combined singles and doubles record of 59-19 since joining the Cougars prior to the 2010-11 campaign.
