Cougar Tennis Rolls Past Lamar To Open Season






HOUSTON - Defending Conference USA champions, the University of Houston women's tennis team, opened up the 1999 spring season with a convincing 9-0 victory over Lamar on Sunday afternoon at the UH Varsity Tennis Courts.

Houston, ranked No. 36 in the nation, cruised in singles action, winning every set. Sophomore Sarah Borwell, playing in the No. 1 position, defeated Caroline Milns, 6-3, 6-4. Perhaps the most impressive performance came from senior Sarah Bolle, who did not lose a game in her match, beating Stephanie Greenwood, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, the team of Borwell and Galina Seliounina easily defeated Milns and Alfa Wentzel, 8-0. Seliounina and Borwell are currently ranked No. 25 by the ITA in the country.

The Cougars will next compete at home against Texas-Arlington on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.
