Tennis Edged By Conference Rival Tulane
HOUSTON - The University of Houston women's tennis team was defeated by
the Tulane Green Wave, 5-4, on Monday March 15 at the UH Varsity Tennis
Courts.
The Cougars and Green Wave were tied after singles play as UH received
victories from their second, third and fourth position players. Senior
Luciane Kelbert won handily, 6-2, 6-4, while sophomore Joanna Cunliffe
won a grueling three-set battle, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. No. 61 ranked sophomore
Sarah Borwell won her third straight match, 7-6 (3), 6-3, all coming at
the number two position.
Needing to take two out of three doubles matches to earn the victory,
Houston (4-7) got a win by the No. 31 ranked tandem of Galina Seliounina
and Borwell 8-2. It marks their eighth consecutive win improving their
overall record this season to 19-5. The Cougars dropped the final two
matches in giving UH it's third consecutive loss by a score of 5-4.
Houston will next play on Friday, March 19 at 3 p.m. against C-USA foe Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis. Tulane 5, Houston 4
