Cougar Netters Begin Spring Season with a Victory






Houston (Jan. 29) - The University of Houston women's tennis team won its first home match of the spring season against University of Texas at San Antonio on Saturday afternoon in Houston, Texas. The Cougars are now 1-0 under first year tennis coach, Jennifer Hyde.

Galina Seliounina
Houston won a remarkable 12 of 14 singles matches, highlighted by the play of senior Galina Seliounina who competed in number one singles. Seliounina quickly defeated her opponent, UTSA's Julie Colin 6-4, 6-2. Also for Houston, newcomers Jen Baccarani, Annie Rapp, and Karine Urbin provided even more momentum, contributing a total of 8 singles match victories in the Cougars defeat over UTSA. Urbin returns to action after being sidelined in the fall with an elbow injury.

Houston also faired well in doubles action, sweeping the competition 3-0. The Cougar tandem of Galina Seliounina and Mette Sigmundstad led the way defeating UTSA's Eva and Louise Soderkvist 8-4.

The Cougars are back in action January 30 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 10:00am at the UH Varsity Courts.
