June 22, 2001 Former University of Houston All-American Jenny Adams was named the Xerox Female Athlete of the Day at the GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, June 21. The wind reading on her jump was 2.4 meters per second, just over the 2.0 allowable. "This hasn't sunk in yet," Adams said. "I never get too excited during the meet because it can be taken away so quickly. "I have been jumping 21 feet consistently today. I was very pleased to hit 22 feet during the end of my series. Usually, I hit my big marks early in the series, then I get tired." Adams recorded her winning jump on her fourth jump of the competition. She opened the meet with a legal jump of 21 feet, 2 1/2 inches (6.47 meters). In the second round, Adams recorded a wind-aided jump of 21 feet, 7 1/2 inches (6.59 meters/4.3 wind). She closed out the preliminary rounds with a a wind-aided mark of 20 feet, 8 1/2 (6.31 meters/2.9 wind) on her third try. After opening the finals with her winning jump, Adams had a foul on her fifth try and completed the event with a wind-aided jump of 21 feet, 11 inches (6.68, 3.1 wind). An 11-time NCAA Indoor and Outdoor All-American at Houston, Adams completed her collegiate career at Houston in dramatic fashion when she won the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 7 1/2 inches and finished third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.16 seconds at the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships at Fayetteville, Ark. Adams also won the long jump and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Durham, N.C.. She won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 5 1/2 inches and her time in the hurdles was 12.91 seconds. "I won't have much time to celebrate because I still have to run in the (100-meter) hurdles," Adams said. "I have been really concentrating on that event and I hope to be celebrating two victories when it's over." Adams will compete in the opening round of the 100-meter hurdles on Saturday, June 23. The semi-finals are at 1:25 p.m. on Sunday, June 24. The finals are at 2:32 p.m. on Sunday. |
