Underwent knee surgery in the spring of 2001.

2000: Completed her first season at the Division I level having started 28 of the team's 32 matches...appeared in 30 matches overall and in 108 of 118 games (91.5 percent)...one of only two players in the conference to rank among the league leaders in defensive digs and service aces...finished third in C-USA digs per game (4.11) and fifth in aces (0.36 p/g)...averaged 3.94 digs per game for the full season, the third-highest total in conference...recorded double-figure digs in match 24 times, including 20 or more four times...posted a career-high 25 digs in four games against conference champion South Florida...also tallied 20+ digs against Texas-Arlington on opening day, DePaul in the C-USA Tournament and NCAA-bound Cincinnati...totaled six digs in just one game played against Jacksonville State...aggressive jump server who registered at least one ace in 22 matches...served a career-high three aces three times, against C-USA foes Memphis, UAB and DePaul...contributor on offense with 164 kills...spiked a career-high 17 kills and hit .310 in a 3-1 win over Texas, the program's first win over the Lady Longhorns since 1994...tallied 10 kills and with a .304 percentage in three games against crosstown rival Rice...hit .300 or better in a match eight times, including a career-best .429 against DePaul...passed out three assists against NCAA-bound Michigan and LSU to help the team win its 21st match of the year...stuffed block solos in a match four different times.

1999: Completed outstanding second season for Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas...led the Lady Saints to a 52-2 record and to a No. 6 national ranking...Seward County won the NJCAA Region VI championship and finished fifth at the national tournament...was named First Team Juco All-American, Region VI Most Valuable Player and the Jayhawk Conference Player of the Year...led SCCC to a perfect 16-0 conference record...coached by Pat Stangle...hit for a .312 percentage on the season and averaged a steady 3.25 kills per game...led the team in defensive digs and service aces...amassed 452 digs in 119 games played, an average of 3.80 per game...dropped-in 120 aces for an average of 1.01 per game.

1998: First season at Seward County...helped lead the Lady Saints to the regional championship match and No. 5 national finish.

High School/Club Volleyball: Attended Colegio Notre Dame in Rio de Janeiro...gained a great deal of experience playing in the Brazilian club leagues.

Personal: Born in Saó Paulo, Brazil...parents are José Luiz and Maria Carbone...father is a soccer coach and brother, Rodrigo, is a professional soccer player...exercise science major...favorite hobbies are going to the beach and dancing...full name is Gabriela but prefers the abbreviated nickname "Gabi"...was also recruited by Pacific, South Florida, Central Florida and Georgia State...chose to attend Houston because "UH has a very good program and is an excellent school."
