Houston Volleyball Cruises Past Lamar, 3-0

HOUSTON - Houston Volleyball set the tone for the rest of the season as the Cougars defeated Lamar in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 26-24).
Lamar falls to 0-2 on the season after losing two during the Houston Cougar Classic this afternoon.
Houston (1-0) took the lead right away as they went on a 12-2 run to take a 20-10 lead in the first set. Senior Kadi Kullerkann was unstoppable as she picked up nine kills, a .467 hitting average, in just the first set.
The Cougars took set two, 25-18. Many errors plagued the Lamar Cardinals as the Cougars attacked the net and knocked down 17 kills.
Lamar put up a fight in set three, but the Cougars shut down the Cardinals 26-24 to seal the deal and take the match 3-0.
Kullerkann finished with a career best of 23 kills, a .444 hitting percentage, and two blocks. Starting setter Keandra McCardell led the team with her first double-double as a Cougars recording 36 assists and 12 digs. Freshman outside hitter Bryanna Lawrence picked up 12 kills in her first start as a Cougar along with 10 digs.
