Los Angeles, Calif. - For the third consecutive match, the University of Houston volleyball team played to a fifth set before falling to Loyola Marymount 3-2 (26-28, 25-23, 23-25, 25-19, 9-15) on Friday night at Gersten Pavilion.

The senior duo of Kinsey Cave and Erin Rice had career nights for the Cougars. Cave finished with 24 kills, erasing her previous career best of 21 set on Tuesday night against Sam Houston State. She added nine digs and four blocks on the night. Ten of Caves kills came in the third set on 14 attempts for a .714 hitting percentage.

Rice added a career best 14 kills, topping her previous high of 13 set in 2007. She also led the team with five blocks. This was the second consecutive match that Rice has recorded double-digit kills.

Tara Roenicke also finished with her third-straight double-double on 45 assists and 10 digs. Three other Cougars also finished the night with more than 10 digs including Ingrida Zauere (15), Marluci Toazzi (13) and Amanda Carson (12).

Houston played its third consecutive five set match this season, falling to 0-3 in those matches. The Cougars also fall to 1-8 on the season and 0-3 all-time against the Lions.

Houston will continue play at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday against No. 20 UC Irvine at the Crowne Plaza LAX Tournament. Fans should note that the time has been moved up 30 minutes from its previously scheduled time. Tournament play will conclude at 7 p.m. when the Cougars face off against Boise State. Gametracker will be available for both matches.
