Volleyball Falls Short of LSU

HOUSTON - In a hard-fought battle, LSU defeated the University of Houston volleyball team in four sets (17-25, 25-22, 19-25, 19-25) in front of a packed Athletics/Alumni Center during day two of the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup Saturday.
The Cougars (7-6) started strong in the first set committing nine errors, but improved greatly into the second set. Before the half, the Cougars tied up the match with a 25-22 win. Houston hit .415; committing only three errors while holding the Tigers (10-1) to a .250 hitting average. LSU took a 2-1 advantage in the third set, winning most of its points on errors by Houston.
Freshman Sarita Mikals recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 17 kills and 13 digs. Cortney Warren also hit 17 kills against LSU, a .293 hitting percentage. Defensive specialist Destiny Patterson dug out a career high 21 digs along with a great defensive showing from the Cougars.
LSU finishes tournament play undefeated. Baylor takes (0-1) on North Texas (1-1) match up at 2:30 p.m. followed by Houston's final match of the tournament against the Bears at 7 p.m.
