Final Stats

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Houston women's volleyball team began its longest homestand of the season Wednesday night, but it didn't open the way the Cougars wanted as 12th-ranked Hawaii took a 3-0 decision at Hofheinz Pavilion.

The Rainbows took advantage of large rallies with unanswered points in all three games to defeat Houston for the sixth straight match. As a team, Hawaii blasted away to a .376 hitting percentage, including a .444 mark in the second game with only four errors in 45 chances.

Jane Anne Karasek led the Cougars with six kills and tied with Gabi Carbone for the team lead with eight digs.

Kim Willoughby led Hawaii with 24 kills and added 13 digs to lead all players in both categories. Lauren Duggins also posted 12 kills for the Rainbows in the winning effort.

There won't be any rest for the Cougars, though, who will play three matches at Hofheinz Pavilion during a four-day stretch. The homestand continues Friday when the Cougars play host to Conference USA rival Saint Louis in a 7:30 p.m. match. On Saturday, UH meets league foe Memphis for the second time this season in a 7 p.m. match.
