Freshman Sarita Mikals led the Cougars to a three-set sweep over Cincinnati Friday night with 14 kills and a .500 hitting average.

HOUSTON - In the American Athletic Conference home debut, the University of Houston volleyball team swept the University of Cincinnati (25-21, 25-13, 25-15) Friday night in front of 689 fans.
The Cougars improve to 10-7 overall, 3-0 in conference play. Cincinnati stays winless for the season (0-16, 0-3). Both teams came out slow in the first set, but Houston turned it on in sets two and three. The Cougars held the Bearcats to a hitting percentage under .100 the whole match.
Freshman Sarita Mikals led the team once again with a .500 hitting percentage(14-2-24), her highest of the season. Hitter Cortney Warren followed with 11 kills on 19 attempts, a .368 hitting percentage.
The Bearcats recorded a -.056 hitting percentage, the second time this season Houston forced a team to have more errors than kills.
The Cougars continue their home stretch as Louisville comes to town for a midday match Sunday. Game time set for 1 p.m. in the Athletics/Alumni Center. It is also Girl Scout Day. Houston Volleyball will host a free pregame clinic for students eighth grade and under. Representatives from the soccer and volleyball teams and the athletic department will speak on women's roles in athletics and sports.
