HOUSTON - A strong guard at the net led the University of Houston to a three-set sweep (25-20, 25-18, 25-22) over the University of Connecticut Friday night at the Athletics/Alumni Center.
The Cougars (14-11, 6-4) held UConn (11-14, 2-8) offensive game to a .089 hitting average and outplayed the Huskies in every category.
Redshirt sophomore Kadi Kullerkann led the Cougars with 16 kills and three blocks, hitting .333. Sarita Mikals recorded her ninth double double of the season with 12 kills and 13 digs. The freshman utility player also notched 4 block assists against the Huskies.
Middle blocker Courtney Smith recorded a season high seven block assists. Fellow middle Kaiti Waters followed with five, and three other Cougars had three or more block assists. Houston Volleyball totaled a season high of 12.0 team blocks in a three-set match against UConn.
Junior libero Natalie Keck recorded a season high 20 digs for Houston, one dig shy of tying her career best (21).
Houston continues its homestand Sunday as the Cougars host Rutgers at 1 p.m.
