MILWAUKEE - The University of Houston volleyball team defeated Marquette 3-1 at Marquette Gym Saturday night in a Conference USA match-up. The Cougars, who outscored the Golden Eagles 32-30, 25-30, 30-27 and 30-22, improved their overall record to 16-7 and 6-2 in C-USA play.

Two-time 2002 Conference USA Player of the Week Jenny Tanneberger led all hitters with 25 kills (.361) and 15 digs. Tanneberger's performance against the Golden Eagles is her sixth double-double this season.

Laura Koster also had a double-double, adding 13 kills and 10 digs, while setter Donna Sellen added 46 assists, eight kills and 10 digs. Six Cougars tallied double-digit digs with Jaci Gonzalez and Mirela Vasconcellos adding 15 apiece and Ali Roberts contributing 10 to the defensive effort.

Jesse Klein led Marquette (11-12, 2-8 C-USA) with 19 kills on the night. Erin Freer, Gemma Greer and Sarah Vernon led the Golden Eagle defense with 14 digs apiece.

The Cougars, who lead the all-time series against Marquette 9-1, are currently fourth in C-USA standings with five regular-season conference matches remaining.

Action returns to Hofheinz Pavilion as Houston battles Louisville on Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
