EL PASO, Texas - The University of Houston volleyball team lost to the UTEP Miners 3-1 Friday night in El Paso, Texas. The Cougars fell in four games with scores of 30-25, 27-30, 27-30, and 26-30.

Houston (12-12, 7-6 C-USA) was led by junior Justine Farmer who had 31 kills and 10 digs. The El Paso, Texas native scored all but 22 of the team's 53 kills on the night.

Houston jumped out to the early 1-0 win in game one. The Cougars traded leads with the Miners throughout the early stages of the match. Freshman Hannah Sullivan served UH to an 8-0 run late in the game to take the lead, 26-22. It would be just enough to give them the first win of the match.

Game two would again be a back and forth contest with one team pulling ahead late. This time UTEP got the 30-27 win. In the game the Miners outhit the Cougars .271 to .157.

After falling behind 0-4 to open game three, Houston responded to take the lead 11-6. The Miners battled back and the game continued to be close the rest of the way. Houston got within one late in the game behind two Sullivan kills but UTEP was able to hold of the surge to get the win.

In their final chance to even the score, Houston played from behind most of the way in game four. They would tie the game multiple times but it wouldn't be enough and the Miners got the win.

Houston split the series this season with UTEP. Earlier in the season, Houston hosted the Miners and won in five games.

The Miners were led by Catherine Chavez and Amy Sanders. Both had 21 kills while Chavez had 10 digs and Sanders has 12.

UH will travel to Tulane on Sunday for a 1pm match against the Green Wave. This is the final road match of the season for the Cougars. They will return home next weekend to wrap-up the season against SMU and Tulsa before traveling to Huntington, W. Va., for the Conference USA Volleyball Tournament.
