Volleyball Falls to USF in Heartbreaking Fourth Set
Nov. 22, 2013
TAMPA, Fla. - Natalie Keck reached her 500th dig of the season with a 16-dig performance against South Florida, but that wasn't enough as the Bulls defeated the University of Houston volleyball team in four sets (25-20, 11-25, 19-25, 23-25) Friday night.
South Florida (16-13, 10-5 American) responded quickly in set two, recording a .296 hitting average and forced 10 errors by the Cougars. USF tied the match 1-1 going into the half.
The Cougars dropped set three 19-25 and looked hungry for the win in set four. Both teams battled back and forth in the final game, tying the score 11 times. Houston took the lead 23-21, but back-to-back kills by Erica Fairs tied the match, 23-23.
Head coach Kaddie Platt was forced to use a timeout to get a game plan together. Fairs fired away again to take the lead and the match point, 24-23. A ball handling error by setter Sophie Paine ended the match 25-23.
Kadi Kullerkann led the Cougars with 13 kills, hitting .200. Freshman Sarita Mikals recorded her 11th double double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs. She also had three blocks and two aces against the Bulls. Warren finished the match with 11 kills, two blocks and four digs.
Libero Keck recorded 16 digs in the four set match. She now has 502 digs on the season.
