Orlando, Fla. - Jenny Tanneberger posted 19 kills as the University of Houston volleyball team wrapped up its 2002 regular season campaign by sweeping Kentucky 3-0 in the final day of the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Fla. The Cougars (19-13, 7-7 C-USA) outscored the Wildcats 30-27, 30-23 and 30-23.
Tanneberger, a 2002 First-Team Conference USA selection and three-time 2002 Player of the Week, led Houston and all hitters with 19 kills (.447) and five blocks while sophomore Laura Koster added 10 kills and four digs in the victory. Senior Donna Sellen handled the Cougars' setting duties, totaling 40 assists, four kills and three digs. MirelaVasconcellos led the Cougar defense with 13 digs and freshman libero Jaci Gonzalez added 11.
Kentucky's Sissy Canfield led her squad with 12 kills and two blocks. Kristi Kelley racked up 32 assists and six kills with Sarah Spinner and Aleshia Craven each contributing nine digs.
Houston outblocked Kentucky (13-17, 6-10 SEC) 12.0 to 6.0 and compiled only 15 hitting errors as a squad. The Wildcats hit just .112 and committed 32 attack errors in the contest.
The win over the Wildcats marks the final match of Houston's regular season. The Cougars' 19-13 record marks the program's 21st consecutive winning season. Bids for the 2002 NCAA Volleyball Championship Tournament will be announce Sunday night on ESPNews.
