HOUSTON - More than 160 University of Houston student-athletes from 16 sports programs earned recognition on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced Thursday.
With 162 student-athletes named to the Honor Roll, the Cougars posted their second-highest total in C-USA in school single-season history. It trailed only the record 164 student-athletes named to the 2011-12 Honor Roll. The Cougars also went over the 1,500-mark during their all-time C-USA history since 1996.
Honor Roll student-athletes maintained a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2012-13 school year. The Cougars were part of a league-record 2,566 student-athletes that were named to the Honor Roll. The total number is an increase of more than three percent from a year ago.
Competitors from the Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Football, Men's Golf, Women's Soccer, Softball, Women's Swimming and Diving, Women's Tennis, Men's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field, Men's and Women's Cross Country and Volleyball were named to the Honor Roll.
At least three student-athletes from every Houston sports program were named to the Honor Roll. Baseball led all sports programs with 25 student-athletes selected, while the Softball team topped the women's squads with 20 selections.
Recipients of the Commissioner's Academic Medal - given to student-athletes with cumulative GPAs of 3.75 or higher, will be announced Friday.
