HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team, under the direction of first year head coach Molly Alvey, will travel to Rice on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. scrimmage, as part of the team's spring scrimmage schedule.
The Cougars will then head north to TCU for four games on Saturday, April 17. The tournament starts with a scrimmage against North Texas at 9 a.m. The weekend continues at 10:30 a.m. against Ole Miss and Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. A 3 p.m. match against Kansas ends the day.
Houston has already played five scrimmages during the spring season. On March 27, the Cougars traveled to UT-Arlington for a round robin tournament. Games consisted of a two-set match against three opponents. The final game of the weekend was a three set match. UH split with Oklahoma and UT-Arlington, but lost to North Texas. Their final match of the weekend was a 2-1 loss to Stephen F. Austin.
The Cougars hosted a single match against Sam Houston State at the Athletics/Alumni Center, April 7, and despite losing 3-1 the team competed well.
UH returns seniors Amanda Carson and Marluci Toazzi to guide the volleyball team in 2010. Carson led the team last season with 481 digs. Her career total of 1,342 career digs rank fifth in the UH career record books. Toazzi finished her first season at UH in 2009, after transferring from Arizona Western College, with 144 digs and 242 digs.
