HOUSTON - The University of Houston Volleyball and Women's Basketball programs spent a morning of their summer break volunteering at the Star of Hope Mission on Wednesday.

The two teams split between two facilities to serve breakfast and help prepare lunches at the local facility kitchens. Director of Leadership Academy Sasha Blake helped coordinate Houston Volleyball with the Star of Hope Mission.

"The experience made me stop and think about the homeless or less fortunate and how our UH community could easily make an impact if every student took a little time to share a small act of kindness like we did today," senior middle blocker Kaiti Waters said. "If we could just give back once a week, so many people would be impacted including ourselves."

Star of Hope is a Christ-centered community dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men, women and their children. Positive life changes are encouraged through structured programs that focus on spiritual growth, education, employment, life management and recovery from substance abuse.
