Volleyball Reports to Campus, Begins Preparations for 2010 Season
Aug. 10, 2010
HOUSTON - A new era has begun for the University of Houston volleyball program. Fourteen student-athletes reported to campus this week for the start of preseason training camp in anticipation of the 2010 season and their first season under head coach Molly Alvey.
The student-athletes reported to campus on Monday afternoon after checking into the dorms and attending a series of meetings with various groups within the Athletics Department.
They were then finally able to take to the court on Tuesday afternoon, beginning two weeks of two-a-day practices, prior to the start of classes on Aug. 23.
"As a staff we are really excited to be back with our own team," Alvey said. "This spring was a lot of time spent on the road recruiting."
The players are incredibly excited to take on the new challenges put in front of them, and there is a positive buzz surrounding the volleyball program."
Alvey has a set of goals for the team during the next two weeks, but one of those goals is more important than the others.
"Our biggest goal over the next two weeks is to learn how to compete as one unit," Alvey said.
Alvey will begin her first season at the helm of the volleyball program on Aug. 27-28 when the team travels to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Invitational.
