HOUSTON – One week prior to the season opener, the University of Houston volleyball program will host its annual Red and White scrimmage this Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Athletics/Alumni Center.
“This is a great opportunity to introduce the team to the fans,” head coach Kaddie Platt said.
During the match, the Cougars will focus on team systems while the coaching staff will use several different lineups to evaluate the teamwork and compatibility.
“Going through the routine of a match will help the team fully comprehend the magnitude of playing in front of a crowd and allow them to handle the stress that comes along with that,” Platt said.
The team will host a free clinic for children eighth grade and younger starting an hour before the match. Admission is free to the public for both events.
Following the match, the team will be available for autographs and is hosting a donation luncheon in the Athletics/Alumni Center Great Room. All donations are accepted or a minimum of $15 per person.
The Cougars open the 2013 season next weekend at the Delta Zeta Classic hosted by Texas State. Houston will face Quinnipiac at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 before closing the tournament Aug. 31 with matches against Lamar at 10 a.m. and the host Bobcats at 6:30 p.m.
Houston Volleyball’s home opener is scheduled for Sept. 20-21 as they host the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup.
