HOUSTON - The Athletics/Alumni Center was filled Saturday afternoon as the University of Houston volleyball program hosted the third annual Red and White Scrimmage and kids clinic.

More than 100 boys and girls participated in the free clinic prior to the game, learning how to pass and hit from the Cougars.

"We had a great showing for the clinic," Head Coach Kaddie Platt said. "We really enjoyed getting to connect with the participants and the girls really enjoyed it."

Senior hitters Kadi Kullerkann and Cortney Warren had great performances today, both hitting over .300.
Freshman Keandra McCardell was the Red team's primary setter and picked up 28 assists, eight digs and two block assists in just two sets. Bryanna Lawrence, a freshman hitter, also had an impressive performance as she recorded nine kills, six digs and a block assists.

"We looked good in our defensive effort," Platt said. "One thing we need to work on is our first ball side out.

"We have a really solid foundation on becoming a great team. The girls really work hard for each other."

Houston Volleyball kicks off the 2014 season as it hosts the Houston Cougar Classic. The first match for the Cougars is against Lamar Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. The Cougars continue tournament play on Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. against Texas State followed by a match at 3 p.m. against Wake Forest.
