HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Volleyball program serves up its 2017 slate Friday with two days of action at the UT Arlington Invitational inside College Park Center.
The Cougars open the tournament with a 4:30 p.m. match against McNeese on Friday. On Saturday, Houston will face Southern in a 10 a.m. first serve before seeing host UTA in the tournament finale at 7 p.m.

Houston is 32-11 all-time in season openers dating back to 1974 (no results available prior to 1974) and 4-1 under Head Coach Kaddie Platt. Platt, who has won her last four season-openers with the Cougars, is 16-6 all-time in season-opening matches across her career.
Houston is familiar with two of its opening-weekend opponents. The Cougars are 27-21 (Sets: 85-68) all-time against the host Mavericks and 5-0 (Sets: 14-3) against McNeese. Houston last played both teams in 2014, defeating McNeese, 3-0, and falling to UTA, 3-0.
The 2017 Cougars return all six starters plus libero Katie Karbo from last season. In total, Houston returns 11 letterwinners from 2016 and welcomes five newcomers as well as two redshirts to the fold.
Senior setter Keandra McCardell enters her final campaign ranking seventh all-time in the Houston record books with 2,783 career assists.
In 2016, Houston finished with a 5-26 overall record and 0-20 mark in American Athletic Conference play.
Last season, the Cougars led The American with 1.30 service aces per set.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
The Mavericks posted a 17-16 overall record and went 10-6 in the Sun Belt Conference in 2016.
UTA returns 2017 preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selections in senior outside hitter Qiana Canete and junior middle blocker Zhanelle Geathers.
The Mavs enter their first season under Head Coach J.T. Wenger.
The Cowgirls finished 10-22 overall and 6-10 in Southland Conference play in 2016.
McNeese returns nine letterwinners from last season.
The Pokes enter their fourth season under Head Coach Ashleigh Fitzgerald.
The Lady Jaguars are coming off a 14-14 campaign in 2016, posting a 12-16 mark in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Southern returns nine letterwinners from last season.
The Jags enter their fifth season under Head Coach Venessa Jacobs.
The Cougars will head to the George Mason Invitational, taking place Sept. 2-3, before closing out tournament play and opening their home slate with the eighth annual Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup across Sept. 8-9.
