Volleyball Sweeps St. Louis
Houston was paced on the night by the senior trio of Stephanie Heiskell, Michelle Frazier and Jennifer Wittenburg. Wittenburg spiked 19 kills with 13 defensive digs and five blocks. Frazier registered 14 kills with a .500 attack percentage and 12 digs while Heiskell added 12 kills on a .357 hitting pace with six blocks. After falling behind and having to rally in each of the first two games, the Cougars jumped out to a 9-1 lead in game three but had to fend-off a Saint Louis comeback that cut the margin to 10-9. Houston stretched the lead to 12-10 when Wittenburg blasted back-to-back kills to make the score 14-10. UH junior Gabi Carbone then served an ace to close out the game 15-10 and the match 3-0. It was Houston's fourth 3-0 win during the current eight-match win streak. Saint Louis fell to 6-9 overall and 1-4 against the league. The Billikens were paced by sophomore middle hitter Colleen Hunter, who led all players with 23 kills. Houston will next face Conference USA rivals UAB and Memphis in back-to-back road games on Friday and Saturday, October 6-7. Game times will be at 7:00 p.m. both nights.
