BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The University of Houston women's volleyball team won its ninth-straight match with a three-games-to-one victory over Conference USA rival UAB Friday night on the road in Birmingham, Ala. With a 12-15, 15-10, 15-9, 15-1 win the Cougars improved to 13-3 on the year and remained undefeated in league play with a perfect 6-0 record.
Houston was paced on the night by the senior trio of Michelle Frazier, Bobbi Stewart, and Jennifer Wittenburg. Wittenburg spiked 30 kills with 19 defensive digs and four blocks. Stewart registered 13 kills and 12 digs while Frazier added eight kills and 12 digs. All three seniors posted hitting percentages of better than .300 to help UH record its best hitting night on the year (.281).
UAB fell to 5-12 overall and 0-5 against the league. The Blazers were paced by hitter Martina Shields, who tallied 16 kills and 13 defensive digs.
Houston will next face Conference USA rival Memphis in the second part of its weekend road trip on Saturday, Oct. 7. First serve will be at 7:00 p.m.
