Two Cougars Receive Weekly Conference Honors

HOUSTON - Two University of Houston volleyball players were named to the American Athletic Conference weekly volleyball honors for their performances in match ups with UCF and USF.

Freshman Sarita Mikals was named the American Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, the first recognition coming in the second week of the season.

The Colleyville, Texas, native had double-figure kills in all three matches this week, reaching her 18th match of the season. Mikals led the Cougars to sweep UCF while recording her eighth double double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs, hitting .302 from the outside. She also had six aces and six blocks for the week.

Junior Kaiti Waters also received recognition this week as she helped Houston to a 2-1 record. At the middle position, Waters put up strong defensive efforts against the opponents, recording 13 total blocks. Offensively, the junior recorded 20 kills and a .267 hitting percentage.
