UH Volleyball To Wrap Up Home Stand in C-USA Showdowns

Oct. 24, 2002

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will look to improve its 13-6 overall and 3-1 Conference USA record this weekend against South Florida and UAB. The Cougars will face the Bulls (19-5, 6-0 C-USA) Friday and the Blazers (9-13, 3-3 C-USA) Saturday night at Hofheinz Pavilion. Both matches are slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.

South Florida currently sits at the top of the conference standings. The Bulls are coached by Nancy Mueller, a former assistant coach at Houston under Bill Walton from 1995-99. Houston has lost its last three against South Florida but leads the series 8-5.

UAB has won its last three matches and is looking for its first victory over Houston in six years. The Saturday night match against the Blazers will wrap up the Cougars' five-match home stand, their longest since 1995.

Despite being plagued by many injuries, the Cougars are currently fourth in C-USA standings. Houston defeated SMU 3-0 Wednesday night for its second win in a row.

Houston is led by middle hitter Jenny Tanneberger (San Antonio-Univ. of Texas), whose 41-kill performance on Oct. 12 broke the school record and tied the C-USA mark and Division I 2002 match-high for kills. She was named C-USA Co-Player of the Week on Oct. 14, her second weekly conference honor in 2002.

Houston will travel north to DePaul and Marquette in November to continue C-USA play. The Cougars will face the Blue Demons Nov. 1 and the Golden Eagles Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
