HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will take to the road this weekend for the final road trip of the regular season. The Cougars will play SMU on Oct. 31 and Tulsa on Nov. 1. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

All matches will be available on Gametracker for fans to follow by clicking on the volleyball schedule page at www.UHCougars.com. A complete wrap-up of each day's events will also be available on the website.

Houston (14-10, 6-5 C-USA) defeated both SMU and Tulsa earlier this season in matches at the Athletics/Alumni Center. The Cougars topped Tulsa 3-0 and improved to 4-3 all-time against the Golden Hurricane. UH also took a 3-1 decision over the Mustangs giving them a 9-3 lead in the all-time series.

SMU is 12-13 this season and 4-7 in conference play. Last weekend, the Mustangs defeated Marshall, 3-0, and lost to East Carolina, 3-2. They are led by Kathryn Wilkerson's team-high 287 kills and Kelli Becerra's 552 assists.

Tulsa brings a 20-6 record into this weekend's competition and a 7-4 mark in C-USA. They are on a three-match win streak, with wins over Memphis, East Carolina and Marshall. The Golden Hurricane has six players with at least 100 kills this season, paced by 334 from Jennifer Eichler. Rachel Vukson leads the team with 791 assists.

Last weekend, Houston split two matches against UTEP and Tulane. The Cougars defeated UTEP 3-1 but fell, 3-2, to Tulane.

Sophomore Lucy Charuk moved into the Top 20 in the NCAA in blocks, averaging 1.33 per set. In conference play she has the second best block per set average. Her .356 hitting percentage is fifth best.

Senior Justine Farmer leads the league in kills per set with 3.88, while sophomore Amanda Carson's 0.39 service ace ranks first. Senior Kelsey King rounds out the Cougars that rank individually in C-USA. King ranks fourth in assists with 10.71 per set.

 

 

UP NEXT
Following this weekend's road trip, Houston will return home to close out the regular season with three matches against Memphis (Nov. 7), UAB (Nov. 9) and Rice (Nov. 13). Prior to the Cougars home finale against Rice, the team will honor seniors Justine Farmer, Kelsey King and Barbara Freitas.

The Cougars will also participate in the 2008 Conference USA Championship in Memphis, Tenn., on Nov. 20-23.
